G11 Colony Revised Book 3 of the G11 Trilogy eBook Sarah Bayen Sapphire Stevens

UPDATE 6/7/14: I am glad to see that Amazon appears to have finally gotten the corrected version of book 3 in place. Now everyone can enjoy the excellent final installment of this intriguing story.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This really excellent story continues to develop to an exciting climax. But there are some problems with book 3 you should be aware of before I continue the review of the story.

While this series still continues to be an outstanding read, there are serious problems with Book 3 of this trilogy. Apparently it underwent some revisions or editing very recently to correct some errors. Unfortunately it looks like the attempt to correct the text actually screwed it up in a major way.

Chapter 7 in book 3 is actually chapter 7 from book 1, which somehow got inserted into book 3. Really confusing when you hit it after just reading chapter 6. So just skip over chapter 7 until they put out a corrected version of book 3.

Another major problem is that there appears to be an entire chapter missing between chapters 8 and 9. This becomes very evident when you see that chapter 8 ends with Steve and the baby at the base camp and then at the start of chapter 9, they are hiding in a cave trying to escape from Colin and Sandra, who have apparently undergone some very strange and disturbing changes and had obviously been holding them prisoner. But there are no details in any of the previous chapters of the changes that happened to Colin and Sandra nor what caused those changes. You can infer what changed them from the facts in chapter 9 but it is really apparent that the missing chapter is critical and contains the details on what changed Colin and Sandra into something predatory and dangerous.

The only previous details on Colin and Sandra indicated that they had moved out of the base camp and where living in the adjacent hills first in a tent and later in the nearby caves. But there's no mention of how Steve and the baby got to the hills from the base camp and evidently ran into Colin and Sandra, nor why Colin and Sandra are keeping Steve a prisoner in the caves.

The author needs to be advised of these problems and issue a corrected version as soon as possible.

But in spite of these problems, it still is an excellent read and you should go ahead and get it. My rating is based on the errors in the text and NOT on what is an incredibly great story. One good thing about the Kindle ebooks is that when they get corrected, you can get the updated corrected copy at no charge, automatically. You just need to make sure you have the automatic book update option enabled.

Now, moving on with the review.

The story gets even better if that is possible, with some startling revelations about the planet and Steve's "special" power. Steve also gets a chance at what he has been wishing for so hard for so long. He is given a chance by a couple of the "gramps" to finally regain his masculinity whenever he is ready to undergo the reverse surgery. But Steve's choice is no longer that simple. Other challenges, responsibilities and unrealized but growing desires will have a direct bearing on his final choice. His almost fully feminized body and the result of a special test the AI system performed on Steve, have had a very deep emotional impact on his thoughts, emotions and feelings. And his growing love for Karen, in spite of or perhaps because of her almost total masculinization are amplifying his feelings and inner doubts as to who and what he really is or wants to be. Adding to his emotional turmoil is the fact that Karen, the boy/girl he is in love with, is apparently missing after the shuttle she and Sylvia were flying back from the space ship crashed on one of the other continents. No one knows at that point if Karen survived the crash.

He and the colonists are also faced with a very unexpected danger from their past that has now been awakened from a slumber begun on old earth. This also creates a serious danger on the planet that could result in the destruction of the entire colony. Steve and his friends have little time to find some means of neutralizing this danger before it's too late for everyone on the planet.

The author continues to do a superb job of letting us experience what the characters are feeling and thinking. She also ups the ante on action and mystery. All in all this is a really superb ending to this fascinating story.

This is a series that I know I will want to re-read again.

G11 Colony Revised Book 3 of the G11 Trilogy eBook Sarah Bayen Sapphire Stevens Reviews

The charm of Books 1 and 2 wears thin as Steve's incessant whining and futile denials wear get monotonous. More contrived obstacles between him and Karen. On the plus side, Steve becomes more resourceful.
I just finished reading the third book in the G11 series, and I can only say that I am very glad that I purchased all three books before beginning. This was such a wonderful series of books that I would have been hard put to wait for the next in the series to come out otherwise.

The author weaves a wonderful story of light science fiction, mixed in with a love story, and a story fraught with the angst and tensions of a group of teens growing up together. The main character, Steve, otherwise known as G11, travels a long, trying journey from his life as a young boy into a full grown woman - growing along the way into a person that everyone loves and admires.

The awkwardness of a teenage love story is made even more interesting and complicated by the fact that both of the protagonists have undergone an unasked for change of gender. This change being performed by the artificial intelligence which controls their environment on the grounds that neither of them will be truly happy unless their genders are swapped. This is the basis for the entire series and the one fact which influences everything else that happens throughout the series.

I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys light science fiction, as well as anyone who enjoys love stories, or just those looking for a nice story in the TG genre.
Chapter 7 & 8 are now duplicates, and as the previous reviewer indicates, obviously a big chunk of plot is missing leading into Chapter 9. There are also name mistakes in the chapters prior to this point, and won't read any further until the updated version is posted. Earlier chapter references mistake "Martin" when it is apparent "Malcolm" is intended. There is also at least one reference where "Sarah" is used when it obviously should be Sandra. None of these types of mistakes are found in book 1 or book 2. Hopefully the author will correct this soon. My rating is based on the story content, not the editing issues.
I was waiting with baited breath for this book, the final installment of the "G11 trilogy" to be re-released. The author has obviously corrected any editing flaws that had plagued and annoyed previous reviewers and finished this series with a wonderful, fitting and powerful conclusion. Can Steve eventually find his rightful place in life and become a self-actualized and impactful person to his friends and family? The last book answers this question and does so with a style and grace leading to a suspenseful conclusion. I'm sad it's over, but very grateful for the experience!
I'm glad I found this series and am happy to say that the conclusion does not disappoint. The characters have all grown and matured; the author asks her readers to accept these new conditions. People who had problems with bodily functions will still have to work this issue out for themselves.

This series is not erotica or even the dreaded Romance! The series is founded on science fiction but, as I've been saying in reviews of the first two books, there is nothing to stop readers who expect more challenging literature for their reading from enjoying this series.
The final book in the series has more plot twists with the heroine Steve made out to be a mystical figure for the founding of the colony by the AI of the ship that brought them there and this comes through in the story. The plot is steady and if you liked the premise of the previous book this one continues that trend, with a little mysticism thrown in, to its conclusion. Unfortunately the characters never end up feeling fleshed out; they are there but still more like caricatures or stereotypes than real people.

tl;dr - An interesting premise but a weak heroine and shallow characters makes this series a read only when you do not have something better in the queue.
