Humanity has been kept bound within the solar system for decades by a hostile alien race known as the Screen. The military and government have resigned themselves that humans will never explore the stars. But the crew of the experimental starship EXODUS have defied the odds and escaped the solar system.

Rechristened the PHOENIX, the ship is commanded by former cadets John Roberts and Julie Olson. They have already demonstrated the Screen can be defeated and are now on the hunt for them to learn what this alien race has planned for humanity.

Join the crew of the PHOENIX as they take humanity’s first steps into space. What will they see? Who will they encounter?

This is the second novel in the exodus series.

Great middle book. Adds some new characters and players to the mix. My only complaint is that I felt that the story in this book was incomplete. I understand cliff hangers but all this book did was add questions to the ones from the first book. It still kept me interested just annoyed. I guess I'll wait until the next book.

Phoenix Among The Stars Exodus Book 2 eBook Robert Stadnik Reviews

As none of the story arcs are actually resolved, the pacing is considerably slower than the first book, and the crew of the Phoenix aren't any father along in their primary mission at the end than when they started, I'd say most people would call this book a filler. Nevertheless, important plot developments are revealed, new friends are discovered, old characters are better flushed out, the situation on earth and that outside our solar system is better defined. All the while the suspense ensures that this volume is every bit as nail-biting as the last one. There were certainly many less desirable directions this series could have taken, and I for one am happy with what I read and the events that took place. Seeing how John carries himself and his crew through each new crisis is becoming addictive and I can't wait to see what he does next.
The plot is consistent with the first book in the series, but both suffer from excessive adjectives and a near total disregard for verb tense. Punctuation is also not a strong suit of this author. However, I'll still likely continue with the series as it is worth the 99 cents per book once you get in the groove of reading what he meant instead of what he wrote.
As as child of the fifty's I grew up reading the Tom Swift series. This series reminds me of the same type of "adventures". It's an OK read and I would like to read the next book but I still find it juvenile to believe that a "cadet" could take on the responsibility of a major "space-going" ship and crew. The way the author gets the "captain" from one calamity to another seems rather weak. Maybe this is a teen series. For the price, it was something to read.
Series is not bad at all. A little stretch of the two becoming Commander, and First Officer, but other than that, Not Bad. Have not read the other parts of the series yet, but am hoping that it will not be like so mant other series I have read, that continue on with virtually the same plot, just different locations, and people filling the main slots. So will see, in the meantime though, Enjoyed the book, and was rooting for the Admiral that got everything started. Will be interesting to see what other parts he will play in this Series.
This is the second Phoenix novel that Robert has written. The first Phoenix novel was a fun read and set the ground work for this story. I read this book in a single setting and the only negitive was that the 3rd book is not available yet!

I'm a big fan of military Sy-Fi and love a fun read... The Phoenix stories do not disappoint. I suggest you read the novels in order. The 1st novel moves a bit slower than the 2nd, but it has all the details that are required to fill out the storyline.

The 3rd novel is Phoenix in Chaos and I can't wait. Good job Robert... now hurry up!
Now that Phoenix has left the solar system, and readers have endured the drama that went along with the breakthrough, it is time to have fun. And fun means meeting awesome new species and civilizations a la star trek.

Alas, it would not be a story without some drama. First is (unsuccessful) hunt for screen. But a bigger issue is sabotage on board. Certain factions on Earth don't want Phoenix to succeed. And they will everything possible to foment dissent if not outright disaster.

The author nicely sets up events for book 3. Perhaps the identity of the saboteur will be revealed. My money is on the security chief.
Phoenix Among the Stars is the sequel to Exodus of the Phoenix, taking place a mere 3 days later. If you haven't read Exodus of the Phoenix, stop reading this review and pick it up so I don't spoil it (and the book was awesome by the way, you can read my review of it).

Captain John Roberts and Commander Julie Olson are back. The first question on everyone's mind is which of the star systems out there to explore in the search for the Screen (and the advancement of science). In their exploration, they come across a mysterious, disabled ship. It's not Screen, so they take it aboard to have the first face-to-face alien encounter. The alien, Drix, turns out to be a lot friendlier than the Screen. Matter of fact, the Screen are his enemy too and the enemy of pretty much everyone as far as he knows. Drix, in return for the human hospitality, shares a mysterious device called the Micron, which implants itself in the brain and allows any being to understand spoken and written languages. He also has a knack for computers so he manages to fix a downed system and upgrade other ones.

In their continued exploration, they come across other beings, including one that is a life form like none they had ever expected. Unfortunately, no one seems to be able to shed light on who the Screen are and what their deal is.

In the mean time, dissension stirs among some of the crew, and a mysterious figure who remains in the shadows has decided to take advantage and fuel that dissension. This is coupled with the discovery that Phoenix holds secrets that not even Captain Roberts or Commander Olson were told about.

Just like the first one, I couldn't put this one down. The characters have remained true to the backdrop that was set in the first book. This one takes place over a few months and you really see the relationship between Julie and John go from the arguing roommates to friends and teammates. I liked the new character Drix, and I also found that Chris Anne became a character with quite a bit of depth.

A word of warning, and this is nothing against the author because he did a great job. The book has some grammatical errors in it. Again, this is not to bash the author, this is because I want to let you know up front because I realize that some people take issue with this and will give up on a book because of it. If you give up on this one, you're missing out so give it a shot. As far as language goes, there is some adult language, although not nearly as much as the first one. It's not obnoxious or anything but again, some people get sensitive to that.

This is a great second book in the series and I am very much looking forward to book 3, Phoenix in Chaos (especially with the cliffhanger at the end of this one).
Great middle book. Adds some new characters and players to the mix. My only complaint is that I felt that the story in this book was incomplete. I understand cliff hangers but all this book did was add questions to the ones from the first book. It still kept me interested just annoyed. I guess I'll wait until the next book.
